Coverage Labelling

Coverage Labelling is the transparency mechanism that ensures CueCrux users always know how well-supported an answer is before they rely on it. Every answer generated by the platform receives a coverage label that communicates, at a glance, whether the evidence base is strong, developing, or thin, setting appropriate expectations and enabling informed decision-making.

The labelling system uses three tiers. Solid coverage means the answer is backed by multiple independent sources that broadly agree on the conclusion, with sufficient diversity to ensure the claim is not dependent on a single publisher or dataset. Partial coverage indicates that some evidence supports the answer but either the source diversity is limited, there are areas of disagreement between sources, or certain aspects of the answer rely on a single authoritative reference. Thin coverage signals that the evidence base is minimal, potentially contested, or insufficient to support the claimed conclusion with confidence.

Coverage computation draws on metrics from the Trust Gradient system. Source diversity counts the number of independent publishers and datasets that contribute to each claim. Agreement metrics measure the degree of convergence between sources, detecting situations where different sources offer contradictory information. Temporal coverage assesses whether the evidence spans a sufficient time range to capture potential changes in the underlying facts. Geographic coverage, relevant for jurisdiction-specific topics, measures whether sources represent the relevant legal or regulatory jurisdictions.

Labels are displayed inline alongside answers in the Ask Surface, ensuring that users see the coverage assessment in context rather than having to navigate to a separate verification view. A healthcare compliance answer with solid coverage presents differently from a novel regulatory topic with thin coverage, and the label makes this distinction immediately visible. Users can click on the label to see the detailed metrics that informed the classification.

Coverage Labelling connects directly to the Coverage-Driven Sourcing system. When the platform identifies domains or topics where thin coverage is common, it generates targeted ingestion requests to improve the evidence base. Users can also trigger sourcing requests by flagging thin coverage labels through Community Threads, adding their domain expertise to guide the sourcing prioritisation.

For regulated environments, coverage labels serve as built-in risk indicators. A compliance officer reviewing a receipted answer sees immediately whether the conclusion rests on comprehensive evidence or thin support, informing their decision about whether additional verification is needed before relying on the answer in their work.

Coverage Labelling represents CueCrux's commitment to honest communication about the limits of its knowledge. Rather than presenting every answer with uniform confidence, the platform transparently communicates where its knowledge is strong and where users should exercise additional caution.
