Ask

Ask is the primary retrieval surface. Type a question, and VaultCrux searches your private document corpus using keyword matching, semantic similarity, and hybrid fusion. Results come back with citations that link directly to the source chunks that support the answer.

Each result shows which documents contributed, which passages were most relevant, and a confidence indicator. You can drill into any citation to see the full source context. If the answer cites multiple documents, the citation panel shows how each source contributed to the overall response.

Ask supports three audit levels that control the depth of verification. Light mode returns fast results for everyday queries. Verified mode runs additional checks to confirm that citations actually support the claims made. Audit mode produces the most thorough evaluation, logging every intermediate step for compliance review.

You can scope queries by domain, date range, or document type. The as-of-date control lets you ask "what did we know about this topic on a specific date?" which reconstructs the knowledge state at that point in time rather than using today's corpus.
