As-of-Date Queries

As-of-date queries let you travel back through your knowledge timeline. Instead of searching today's corpus, you specify a date and VaultCrux reconstructs what was known at that moment: which documents existed, which versions were current, and what the retrieval results would have been.

This is essential for compliance and investigation workflows. When something goes wrong, you need to know what information was available when the decision was made. As-of-date queries answer that directly: "what did we know about supplier X on March 15th?" returns the answer that would have been generated on that date, with the sources that existed at that time.

The temporal reconstruction is powered by the append-only event log. Because every ingestion, update, and deletion is recorded as an immutable event, the system can replay to any point and rebuild the exact corpus state. This is not an approximation. It is a deterministic reconstruction.

As-of-date queries combine with Reserve and Watch to create accountability chains. Reserve an answer today, set a Watch, and if the answer drifts, you can use as-of-date to compare what was known then versus what is known now. The difference shows exactly what changed and when.
